A

We do not always understand why God has acted in this way, but we must have faith and trust that God loves us and knows what is best. Suffering is a test and helps us to develop our character.

A

St Augustine argued that God gave humans free will. Moral evil is caused by humans turning away from God and making bad decisions. God loves us and wants us to stop sinning, but we have to decide this ourselves.

A
  • Good, wealthy man loses everything (money, family and health)
  • Suffering causes Job to become angry and resentful of God
  • His friends persuade him to have faith in God and that the suffering must be punishment for sin.
  • Job doesn’t accept this.
  • God intervenes and explains to Job how little he understands about God’s creation.
  • Job accepts that he will never fully understand and that he must trust God.
    -Job is then rewarded for his faith.
