what is the equity theory?
it is an economic theory which developed in response to a significant criticism in the SET.
what psychologist talks about the role of equity?

they argues that equity in relationships refers to when the partners level of profit is roughly the same. however, the rewards and costs do not have to be the same.
under-benefitted partner
is more likely to be less satisfied and their feelings may be represented in anger and resentment.
over-benefitted partner
they may feel less dissatisfied but it is likely to feel discomforted and shame.
what is equity and equality?
the size/ amount of rewards and costs does not matter, it is the ratio of the two that matter.
what are the consequences of inequity?
changes in perceived equity and dealing with inequity

what a partner perceives as equity can change over time.

the more unfair the relationship feels, the harder they will work to restore the equity.
