What are the steps to how inspectors carry out inspections ?
1.identify the scope and purpose of the inspection
2.gather views of service users
3.gather information from staff
4.observe service delivery
5.review records
6.look at documents and policies
7.feedback at a meeting with the inspection team and senior staff
8.publish findings
9.take action to improve services where needed
What happens after the inspection process ?
-the service provider is graded - this may reflect a range from outstanding to inadequate
-requirements or warning notices may be given , setting out improvements required and a timescale
-organisations and individuals may be asked to implement policy and or practice changes
-in some instances a provider might be required to to limit the range of services or face criminal prosecution
What may be actions which are taken in response to inspection ?
Providers may need to ;
-write and implement an improvement action plan
-implement enhanced staff training
-improve partnership working such as when services have failed to protect vulnerable children
-ensure changes to working practices for example changes to hand hygiene procedures

-monitor compliance with hand hygiene procedures
-store cleaning equipment correctly to avoid cross contamination
-replaced damaged theatre equipment
