Receiver Dryer Flashcards
What is the function of the Receiver-Dryer?
Removes moisture, contaminants, and stores refrigerant.
High pressure liquid enters the Receiver-Dryer. The receiver-dryer contains desiccant, which absorbs moisture in the system, up to about 2 tablespoons. Excess refrigerant is stored here when not needed (low cooling demands). Refrigerant is also filtered, removing trace contaminants in the system.
Why must the Receiver-Dryer be replaced when the A/C System is opened to the atmosphere?
Because the desiccant will absorb moisture from the humidity in the air.
Policy: The Receiver-Dryer must be replaced when the A/C System is opened to the atmosphere.
