Electronic Leak Detector Flashcards
Is R134a heavier, or lighter than air?
About 3 times heavier!
R134a is about 3 times heavier than air.
How does an electronic leak detector find a leak?
Ultrasonic(Sound), Measuring Halogenated Gases(Chlorine/Fluorine) used in CFC, HFC, and HCFC Refrigerants. (R12, R134a) R-1234y does not contain these gases.
An electronic leak detector finds leaks using ultrasonic sound and by measuring halogenated gases found in certain refrigerants.
When using the electronic leak detector, how fast should you move it?
At a rate of 1-2” per second, below the component you are checking.
What should you do before checking for leaks around the compressor clutch and charge ports?
Use compressed air to blow air around these areas.
Is some dye seepage around the charge ports and compressor front shaft seal normal?
Yes, some dye seepage is normal. Use electronic leak detector to find leaks in these components.
What should you do if service caps are missing on charge ports?
Replace them.
Ensure service caps are present on both charge ports. If not, replace.
What are the part numbers for the High Side Cap and Low Side Cap?
High Side Cap(Z523181) Low Side Cap(Z523180)
How can you check for leaks in the evaporator?
Insert the leak detector into the vacuator valves, and/or the cabin air filter duct opening.
