What is reactive arthritis?
Inflammatory arthritis that occurs after exposure to certain GI or GU infections
How does reactive arthritis present?
1-4 weeks after infection, asymmetrical oligoarthritis, painful, swollen, warm, red, stiff joints, dactylitis
What is the ‘classic triad’ in reactive arthritis?
Conjunctivitis, urethritis, arthritis. Can’t see, can’t pee, can’t climb a tree
What blood tests will be raised?
ESR and CRP
What would you see on an X-ray?
Sacroiliitis or enthesopathy
What acute management is there?
Splint affected joints, NSAIDs, local steroid injections
What should you consider if symptoms last >6 months?
Sulfasalazine or methotrexate
What can cause reactive arthritis?
Chlamydia (C trachomatis), Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella enteritis, Shigella
What is the classic triad known as?
Reiter’s syndrome
What is keratoderma blennorrhagium?
Rash on feet
