How is renal colic described?
the most painful thing, restless. Loin to groin pain
Where do the ureters run?
Along the transverse processes
uric acid stones
Non calcified, will not be seen on plain film
Antenatal renal imaging look at kidneys
Agenesis, polycystic, obstruction at PUJ, or posterior urethral valve. Reflux
What size of stone will need urological intervention?
greater than 6mm (99%)
4-6 will be 50%
What are some of the renal diagnoses talked about
renal colic; nephritis of some sort; prostate enlargement causing recurrent UTI’s; polycystic; haemorrhage
What are the two modes of scanning for a uterus?
Transabdominally(fill up bladder) or transvaginal
When do you see fluid in the pouch of douglas?
After ovulation or during an ectopic pregnancy (note halo appearance post ovulation of uterus endometrium)
What happens to polycystic ovaries when scanning?
Ovaries go from almond shaped to round
What techniques are most commonly used for pelvis imaging?
UT and MRI (avoid radiation)
