Male and Female genitalia Flashcards
What are the two pouches in females formed by peritoneum?
vesicouterine (anterior) and rectouterine (pouch of Douglas)
What are the two perineal muscles involved with the genitalia? (superficial pouch)
-ischiocavernosus, on the ischiopubic rami that aid erections (M) and tense vagina (F)
-bulbospongiosus: attach to perineal body
males- joins at midline raphe. Aids erection and ejaculation. can aid urination
females- split either side of vaginal orifice, clitoral erection and feeling orgasm
What are the erectile tissues in M and F? (note under the musculature)
F: Crus of the clitoris (under ischiocavernosus). Contributes to body of clitoris; bulb of vestibule, contributes to head of clitoris and surrounds vaginal orifice
M: crus of the penis, when theyleave the body wall, makes the corpus cavernosum (2x); bulb of the penis, becomes corpus spongiosum and glans of penis (note spongy urethra)
What is the scrotums blood supply?
Internal and external pudendal arteries
Where is the ejaculatory duct formed?
Where are seminal vesicles?
Vas deferens joins duct from seminal vesicle, and inserts into prostate, then into urethra
Seminal vesicles are post to bladder
What is the course of the vas deferens?
Leaves DIR lateral to the inf epigastric artery, crosses over external iliac vessels towards the prostate, over the ureter.
water under the bridge
(in females the uterine artery is over the ureters)
What is the main pattern of lymphatic drainage for make genitalia and what are the different ones?
Iliac nodes
Testicular drains to para aortic nodes at L2 (same as ovaries)
Glans penis to deep inguinal nodes
Skin of penis to superficial inguinal (same as round ligaments)
What are parts of the broad ligament?
mesosalpinx (over fallopian tubes)
Mesovarium (over ovaries)
mesometrium (over body of uterus)
Is double folded
What does the round ligament do?
Kinda like the vas deferens?? creates anterversion
What are the ovarain ligaments?
mesovarium
ligament of ovary (ovary to uterus)
Susp. lig (ovary to pelvis) (where ovarian vessels run)
What is the female vestibule?
part enclosed by labia minora, with clitoris, vaginal and urethral orifice) plus glands
What can happen with Bartholins glans?
Can be blocked and cause cysts.
Can lead to abcess. Not good
