Rabies Mode of transmission
A
Bite of an infected rabid animal
*it can be airborne (wear N95 mask when dealing with patient)

Rabies Signs and symptoms
A
- Sense of apprehension (fear of air- anemophobia)
- Hydrophobia
- Fever
- Headache
- Spasms of muscles/bronchospasm (pathognomonic sign)
- Paralysis
- Delirium and convulsions

A
- Wound care: soap water, povidone iodine or alcohol (paduguin ang sugat then running water)
- Vaccination/immunization (pet)
- Be a responsible pet owner
- Never allow pets to roam around

Rabies PATHOGENESIS
A
- Bite of an infective rabid animal
- Virus introduced in an open wound (inoculation)
- Virus will bind with cell receptors
- Virus replicates particularly in striated muscles
- Spread and infect the nerve cells and travel directly and attack the CNS
- Migrate to peripheral nerves directly and migrates to the brain or may replicate in muscle tissue
- Rapid virus replication
- Affect adjacent non nervous tissues
- Hydrophobia, sense of apprehension, fever, headache, muscle spasms, paralysis, delirium, convulsions.
