● Shigellosis dysenterae

Dysentery Source of infection
- Feces of infected persons
- Ingestion of contaminated food, milk
Dysentery Incubation Period
1 day; less than 4 days
Dysentery Signs and Symptoms
B, D, T, N, F (BoDy Temp N Fever)
● Bloody and mucoid stools
● Diarrhea
● Tenesmus
● N/V
● Fever
frequent urge to go to the bathroom without being able to go

finger, food, fly, feces, fomites

Dysentery Management
● Diet: BRAT/Increase potassium rich-foods
● Increase fluid intake to replace loss due to diarrhea
● ORESOL
Dysentery PATHOGENESIS
- Bacteria
- Intestine
- Penetrate mucus
- Multiply in epithelia cell and proper lamina
Inflammation - Vessel contraction
- Superficial mucosal
- Necrosis and ulcer
- Diarrhea mixed with blood and pus, abdominal pain
