MSCCLE
Madarosis (loss of eyebrows)
Sinking of nose bridge
Clawing of fingers and toes
Contractures
Lagopthalmos (inability to close eyelids)
Enlargement of breast (gynecomastia)
Classification of leprosy
Paucibacillary
- indeterminate & tuberculoid
- small/few bacilli
- incubation period: 1-4 yrs
- not infectious
- few lesions
- few bacilli
- 6-9 mos. Treatment
Classification of leprosy
Multibacillary
- lepromatous & borderline
- more bacilli
- incubation period: 4-8 yrs
- highly infectious
- more lesions
- several/more bacilli
- 24-30 months treatment
Diagnostic test for leprosy
Slit skin smear (scrape then reactive agent)
Medical Management for leprosy
- Domiciliary treatment: treated at home instead of going to sanitary room in Palawan
- RA: 4073
Tx for leprosy: Paucibacillary (Adult)
Day 1
Ø RIFAMPICIN 600mg (once a month)
Ø DAPSONE 100mg (daily)
Day 2-28
Ø DAPSONE 100mg (DAILY)
Ø 6 blister packs to be taken monthly within a maximum period of 9 months
Tx for leprosy: Multibacillary (Adult)
Day 1
* RIFAMPICIN 600mg (once a month)
* CLOFAZIMINE 300mg (once a month)
* DAPSONE 100mg daily
Day 2-28
* CLOFAZIMINE 50mg and DAPSONE 100mg
12 blister packs to be taken monthly within a maximum period of 18 months
Tx for leprosy: Paucibacillary (Child)
Day 1
RIFAMPICIN 450mg and
DAPSONE 50mg
Day 2-28
DAPSONE 50mg
Tx for leprosy: MULTIBACILLARY (CHILD)
Day 1
* RIFAMPICIN 450mg
* CLOFAZIMINE 150 MG
* DAPSONE 50mg
Day 2-28
* CLOFAZIMINE 50mg EVERY OTHER DAY and
DAPSONE 50mg
Leprosy PREVENTION
- AVOIDANCE OF SKIN TO SKIN CONTACT WITH LEPROMATOUS CASE
- BCG VACCINATION
- GOOD PERSONAL HYGIENE
- ADEQUATE NUTRITION (Vit. C rich foods and fluids)
*1 dose of Rifampicin in Caloocan & San Lazaro Hospital
