QUIZ 6 Flashcards
GENERAL OVERVIEW
- the continuation of the external iliac artery as it enters the thigh; the name
changes as it passes deep to the inguinal ligament - the femoral artery continues to the adductor hiatus; after the artery passes through the adductor hiatus the name changes to the popliteal artery
Femoral Artery or Superficial Femoral Artery
- this major branch of the femoral artery passes posterior, intermediate to the pectineus muscle and the adductor longus muscle; it then passes inferiorly, anterior to both the adductor brevis and adductor magnus muscles (these are posterior to adductor longus muscle), to its termination
Profunda Femoris Artery / Deep Femoral Artery
this artery gives rise to the 4 perforating branches and the fourth is the termination of the profunda femoris artery?
profunda femoris artery
this artery gives rise to the artery to the ligamentum capitis femoris?
acetabular artery of the obturator artery
what are the branches of the femoral nerve?
medial femoral cutaneous n
intermediate femoral cutaneous n
saphenous n
what are the branches of the subartorial plexus?
obturator nerve, anterior branch
medial femoral cutaneous branch
saphenous nerve
what are the branches of the patellar plexus?
medial femoral cutaneous n
intermediate femoral cutaneous n
lateral femoral cutaneous n
saphenous n
name this space?
- a triangular space deep to the fascia lata at the superior medial aspect of the thigh
- an important clinical space as many neurovascular structures pass through it
- the base is superior (proximal) and the apex is inferior (distal) - the apex extends to the adductor canal
femoral triangle
name the borders (superior/base, lateral, medial), floor, roof, and the contents?
borders
superior - inguinal ligament or pouparts ligaments
lateral - medial edge of the sartorius muscle
medial - medial edge of the adductor longus m
floor
formed by the pectinous, adductor longus and iliopsoas m
roof
fascia lata, cribriform fascia
contents lateral femoral cutaneous n femoral n profunda femoris a femoral sheath
what are the branches off the profunda femoris a?
lateral femoral circumflex a
medial femoral circumflex a
what are the contents of the femoral sheath?
femoral branch of the genitofemoral n
femoral a
femoral v
femoral canal
what is the function of the femoral sheath?
to allow the femoral vessels to glide during flexion and extension of the hip joint; prevents the impingement of vessels
where is the femoral canal located? contents?
this is the superior opening of the femoral canal?
this is the adipose tissue that covers the opening of the femoral hernias
femoral sheath
femoral ring
femoral septum
femoral ring
femoral septum
what is the function of the femoral canal?
to allow for expansion of the femoral vein
this is a weak area of the abdominal wall and site of femoral hernias?
femoral ring
