What condition is a patient with coal-worker pneumonoconiosi likely to develop?
Massive pulmonary fibrosis, cor pulmonate, emphysema
PFT in Asthma
Obstructive (decreased FEV), increased lung capacity (increased TLC), normal transfer factor (TLCO)
TLCO (transfer factor) in COPD
low
PFT in restrictive lung disease
FEV may be decreased or normal, TLCO is decreased, TLC is also decreased
What anti fungal is used to treat aspergilloma?
Itraconazole. Other agents include amphotericin B with flucytosine, voraconazole
What is the early asthma response?
Acute bronchospasm occurring 20 mins after exposure with resolution in 1-2 hours. mast cell degranulation caused by IgE produced by B cells
Late Asthma response
occurs 3-5 hours and resolves spontaneously after 6-8 hours includes eosinophils, attraction of phagocytes
What pneumonia is common in cystic fibrosis?
Staphylococcus aureus in early ages then pseudomonas as patient ages
