Pulmonary to the Systemic Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the function of the right pump of the heart.
A
- Moves blood that is semi-depleted of oxygen.
- Carries blood high in CO2 to the lungs via the pulmonary circuit.
- In the lungs blood is re-loaded with oxygen + CO2 is released.
- Oxygenated blood then travels to the left side of the heart.
2
Q
Describe the function of the left pump of the heart.
A
Re-oxygenated blood is moved via the systemic circuit to the various tissues of the body.
3
Q
What are precapillary sphincter gates?
A
Gates that control the distribution of blood throughout the capillary network.
4
Q
What is sheat blood flow?
A
- Refers to blood flow through out a tissue like a sheet.
- This allows for optimal exchange of nutrients + oxygen.
5
Q
What can veins be considered?
A
Blood reservoirs.
6
Q
Why can veins be considered blood reservoirs?
A
Blood can sit in venous networks until needed.
7
Q
What are the function of valves within the veins?
A
- They prevent the backflow of blood.
- Without valves in the lower limb there would be a constant pressure of blood.
- So there would not be a timely supply of blood.
