Pulmonary to the Systemic Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the function of the right pump of the heart.

A
  • Moves blood that is semi-depleted of oxygen.
  • Carries blood high in CO2 to the lungs via the pulmonary circuit.
  • In the lungs blood is re-loaded with oxygen + CO2 is released.
  • Oxygenated blood then travels to the left side of the heart.

Q

What are the function of valves within the veins?

A
  • They prevent the backflow of blood.
  • Without valves in the lower limb there would be a constant pressure of blood.
  • So there would not be a timely supply of blood.
