Are jury deliberations disclosed? (1)
No, jury deliberations are secret and juries do not provide reasons for their decisions.
What does S.20D(1) JA 1974 state? (1)
That it is an offence for a person intentionally to disclose information about statements made, opinions expressed, arguments advanced or votes cast by members of a jury during their deliberations.
What does S.20F(1) state? (1)
If the person making the disclosure believes that (i) an offence or contempt of court has been or may have been committed by or in relation to a juror in connection with those proceedings (ii) conduct of a juror in connection with those proceedings may provide grounds for an appeal against conviction or sentence.
What does S.20F(7) state? (1)
It is not an offence to disclose information or any evidence in contempt of court proceedings in relation to a juror’s breach of conduct.
