What is pathogenicity?
ability of a microorganism to grow and multiply within an infected host, at the expense of the host without conferring any benefits upon the host
What is commensalism?
When organisms grow in association with the host but cause no damage to the host
What is symbiosis?
When the organisms co-exist, each deriving benefits from the other
What does the elimination of a pathogen from a host depend on?
Host health
Immune response of the host
How are pathogens horizontally transmitted?
person to person through infected air, water etc.
How are pathogens vertically transmitted?
through generations - sperm, placenta, milk
Why are women more prone to UTIs than men?
They have a shorter urethra
