PTP 2 Unit 11 HealthCare Theories Flashcards
What is a Theory?
Analytical principles or statements designed to structure our observations, understanding and explaination of the world
What is a model?
Deliberate simplification of a phenomenon or a specific aspect of a phenomenon
What is Framework?
Structure, overview, outline, system or plan consisting of various descriptive categories
What is the Biopsychosocial model?
This is for the patient-provider relationship
What is the Theory of Planned Behavior?
This outlines that in order to achieve a desired behavioral outcome, we need to consider a peron’s attitude, subjective norms, behavior control
What is the behavior Change Wheel?
This is a framework for designing interventions
What is the Health Belief Model?
This is a combination of demographic variables and psychological characteristics drive perceived susceptibility or how much a person believes that they are likely to acquire a specific health condition, which will lead to an actual action (to a behavior change)
What is the Transtheoretical Model of change
aka stages of change
These are stages a patient goes through in order to make any substantial change in their behavior
- Pre-contemplation: people start to think a little bit about their health behavior and may consider starting it within the next half year or so. They are considering the pros and cons but not fully understanding all details and consequences
- Contemplation: where people are intending to start their health behavior within the next 6 months and they will highly benefit from additional encouragement. They appreciate the benefits more
- Preparation: When people have made the decision to truely change their behavior; they will normally start within the next 30 days and they will take small steps in preparing for the upcoming change
- Action: When the person is actually changing the health behavior
- Maintenance: People have actually completed their health behavior
Goal is to not relapse and stay in maintence
