Q

What are the 3 steps for capillary refill time?

How is it interpreted?

A
  1. apply firm pressure over a nail bed or bony prominence until nail or skin blanches
  2. release pressure
  3. observe time for skin or nail bed to regain full color

Interpretation
Normal: full color returns in < 2 seconds
Abnormal: refill time > 2 seconds, indcates capillary blood flow is compromised
