Psychopathology Flashcards
Important concepts in psychopathology
Stable/unstable behavior
Genes/environment interaction
Developmental trajectories
Risk, protective, vulnerability factors
Attention for development op problems/resilience
Risk factors
Threatens of basic needs. Present before development of problem.
Protective/vulnerability factors
Moderate effects of risk factor. Protective factors increase change of adaptive development. Vulnerability decreases it.
Allostasis
No longer returning to baseline. New stable baseline at a higher level. Continuous stress causes this.
Cumulative risk factor
If there are a lot of risk factors it can have a large effect on IQ. Specific outcomes eg. parenting style can be very predictive for certain things like drinking age
.Equifinality
Multiple risk factors can lead to the same problem
Multifinality
Risk factors have multiple effects.
