ongoing process by which individuals grow and become a part of society by internalizing its values and norms
social constructs
norms artificially created by society
social construct theory
considers all meanings to be created through communications between individuals in society
weak social constructs

frontstage behavior

backstage behavior

when an individual feels worried about behaving in a way that affirms negative stereotypes about the group that they belong to
