What is intellectual property
Something that has been physically created and didn’t exist beforehand - uniqueness is a key part of intellectual property rights
What is copyright
Provides protection for up to 70 years after the creators death - allows others to use with the creators permission
What is unregistered design
Grants protection for designs so that they can’t be copied - applies for 10 years and covers the appearance of products
What is a patent
Granted to the inventor by the government, guarantees 20 years legal protection - submission are made to the intellectual properties office / IPO, requires detail drawings describing everything in the product
What is registered design
Covers appearance and decoration of a product up to 25 years
What is trademark and logos
Logo is a graphical symbol that can be used for marketing and brand identity, trademark is a phrase of words that has to be renewed every 10 years
What is open design
Products freely accessible to everyone
