A
Hardening the surface of steels, produces a layer of outer casting with great hardness and indentation resistance whilst keeping the softer qualities inside the metal

A
The rapid cooling of heat treated a metal

What is hardening and tempering
A
Heating high / medium carbon steels, then rapidly cooling them via quenching, then heating them again to a set temperature remove excess hardness
