IDEA (1997)
encourages serving disabled in general classroom settings,
promotes increased, meaningful parental involvement in evals
including access to reports & test instruments,
mandates the development of alternative assessments for those who cant participate in standard assessments,
promotes increased participation of special educators in general classroom settings
including involvement with curriculum,
prevents inappropriate id & mislabeling of those who are ethnically, linguistically, & racially diverse
SLP scope of practice
assessing & treating swallowing & upper aerodigestive disorders,
developing & implementing augmentative & alternative forms of communication & prescribing AAC devices & systems,
screening hearing & offering auditory training & speech-language services to the deaf & hard of hearing,
using instruments to observe, collect, & analyze data relative to communication & swallowing functions
IFSPs
(individualized family service plans) require info about: childs present level of development, familys needs & strengths relating to childs development, major goals for the child & family & services to be provided, review of the plan at 6 mo intervals or more frequently if needed
