sole proprietorship
the company is owned by an individual and operates under either the individual’s name or a company name.
partnership
two or more people share in the management, profits, and risks of the business.
corporation
an association of individuals, created by statutory requirements, having an existence independent of its members
limited liability company
hybrid business organization that combines the advantages of the corporation and the partnership
joint venture
temporary association of two or more persons or firms for the purpose of completing a project
departmental organization
a project moves through the office from one department to another
studio organization
based on various smaller groups in the business, called studios. each studio is responsible for completing an entire project, from initial planning to production and construction administration
professional liability insurance
protects the designer in case some action by the designer causes bodily injury or property damage. good for incorrect specs, mistakes on drawings, and incorrect installation of furniture
general liability insurance
includes a range of insurance protection against claims of property damage, liability, and personal injury caused by the designer or employees
property insurance
protects the designers building and its contents against disasters such as fire, theft, and flood
personal injury protection insurance
protects the interior designer against charges of slander, libel, defamation of character, misrepresentation, and other torts
automobile insurance
covers liability and property damage to vehicles owned and used by the business and can include protection against claims made by employees using their own cars while on company business
workers compensation insurance
is mandatory in all states and protects employees in the event of injuries caused by work related activities
