Construction Drawings, Schedules, and Specifications Flashcards
All air systems
cool or heat spaces by conditioned air alone. heat is transported by supply and return ducts
HVAC systems for commercial buildings
VAV (Variable air volume)
High velocity dual duct
Constant volume with rehear
multizone system
plenum
space between the suspended ceiling and structural floor above
All water heating systems
use some type of coil unit called a convector in each space through which hot water is circulated
chase
enclosed vertical space used only to accommodate ducts or pipes
mixing box
adjusts the quantity or temperature of air going into a space from the main air supply lines, reduces the velocity of air, and attenuates noise
access flooring
false floor of individual panels raised above the structural floor with pedestals used to access electrical, communication and computer wiring
Plenum requirements
where a plenum is used as a return air space, combustible materials (wood, exposed wire) are prohibited in the space
some telephone and communication wire are plenum rated
Air supply options
1’ - 2’ square diffusers are common in suspended ceiling systems
Slot air diffusers are long and skinny for smaller supply or return
Mechanical plan symbols
see sheet 13-8 in textbook
electrical conducters
extend from circuit breaker boxes to the individual switches, lights, and outlets
outlet spacing
must be placed no farther than 12 ft apart
must be an outlet on each awl furniture might be placed on
dedicated circuits
outlets on their own circuit that prevent various types of electrical interference from disturbing sensitive electrical equipment connected to them
three types of protections provided in electrical wiring
grounding - a separate wire in addition to the two that provide power that prevents a dangerous shock if someone touches an appliance with a short circuit
GFCI - ground fault circuit interrupters are devices that detect small current leaks and disconnect the power to the circuit or appliance
AFCI - arc fault circuit interrupter - provides protection from the effects of arc faults
two components of plumbing
water supply - includes hot and cold water supplied by small pipes under pressure
drainage - work by gravity, must be sloped downward to carry away wastes. vent pipes required. drains must be sloped min. 1/4” / ft
