Why would we genetically modify pigs?
A
Pigs may be able to grow replacement organs for use in human transplant surgery as more people need the surgery than there are organs available.

What would first need to be done to the pig to prepare it and why?
A
The pigs would have to have human genes inserted into their cells first. This would stop the organs being rejected when transplanted into a human.
This is very difficult but once successful the pig could be cloned so many copies of the same organ could be grown inside the animal.
