Actions
Acts on several neurotransmitter systems:
1. anti dopamine actions
2. alpha-adrenergic antagonism
3. potentiates noradrenaline
4. weak anticholinergic and antihistamine effects
5. weak serotonin antagonism
Onset IM: limited data
Duration IM: limited data - likely to be prolonged

Uses
For the treatment (only) of nausea and vomiting from a variety of vestibular causes, including motion sickness, migraine, vertigo and labyrinthitis.

Adverse Effects
- Nervous system: drowsiness, extrapyramidal symptoms’
- Respiratory: respiratory depression
- Cardiovascular: hypotension, ECG changes (especially QT prolongation)
- Gastrointestinal: constipation, dry mouth

Contraindications
KCSNPNP
1. Known hypersensitivity to phenothiazines
2. CNS depression
3. Shock from any cause or other circulatory compromise
4. Not for use in pregnancy
5. Paediatric patients <18yrs
6. Not to be given in conjunction with intravenous amiodarone
7. Previous oral prochlorperazine within last 8 hours.

- Renal Dysfunction
- Parkinson’s disease
- Myasthenia gravis
- Epilepsy
- Caution in elderly - increased risk of dystonic reactions

Adult >18
12.5mg deep IMI
Single dose only.
