Action
A
Reverses the effects of narcotic analgesics.
IV: onset 1-2mins durations 30-45mins
IM: timing unknown, but thought to have slightly longer onset and duration than when given IV.

Uses
A
- Coma
- Drug overdose and poisoning
- Use in situations where there is significant decrease in level of consciousness; where there is hypoventilation and or loss of protective reflexes; and where overdose of narcotics cannot be positively excluded

Adverse Effects
A
- May precipitate acute withdrawal syndrome in narcotic addicts
- Occasional aggressive behaviour following reversal
- Nausea and vomiting

A
Known hypersensitivity

Dose
A
Adult: 0.8mg IM
Repeat once
or call ICP backup for IV and additional doses
Paed: 0.01mg/kg
Repeat after 2-5mins if no effects
maximum paed dose: 3x calculated doses.
ICP back up for additional doses.
