Potent anti-nauseant and antiemetic

4mg in 2ml - plastic or glass ampoule
4mg - orally disintegrating tablet (ODT)
Ondansetron
Actions
- Potent, highly specific and selective serotonin 5-HT receptor antagonist
- Precise mode of action in control of nausea and vomiting is not known. likely to have actions peripherally and in the central nervous system.
- Maximum effect is approximately 10mins following IV adminstration
- Hepatic metabolism

For the prevention or treatment of nausea and vomiting

Adverse effects
FODATH
1. Flushing of the skin
2. Occasional reaction at the site of IV injection
3. Drowsiness
4. Anxiety and agitation
5. Transient visual disturbances
6. Headache

Not recommended in pregnancy

Dose Adult
IV: 8mg slowly over 2 mins. May be administered IM if necessary. single dose only
ODT: 8mg sublingually - single dose only.

IV: 0.1mg/kg (max 4mg) - slowly over 2mins. May be administered IM if necessary.
repeat once if required, after approx 10mins
ODT:
>6months-3yrs 2mg - single dose
4yrs-9yrs - 4mg - single dose
>10yrs - 8mg - single dose
