presentation Flashcards
What are the 3 diagnoses types?
Nucleic Acid Amplification Test
Gram Stain
Culture
How does Nucleic Acid Amplification Test Work?
Urine/Fluid samples taken
Detects genetic material (DNA/RNA)
Nucleic Acid extracted from cell and copied making it easier to detect
Most Accurate
How does Gram Stain work
Fluid sample placed on a microscope slide and stained with dye
Specific for men with urethra discharge
Less accurate for females and asymptomatic males
How does Culture test work?
Fluid sample taken and added to substance that promotes bacteria growth
If no bacteria grows, negative
If bacteria grows, positive
When culture test recommended with NAAT
When infected in areas with high rates of antimicrobial resistance
Once bacteria is cultured what can be done to it?
Culture test
Can be exposed to antibiotics directly
Allow measurement of bacterias susceptability or resistance to antibiotics
What does CDC and WHO stand for
A us agency - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
World Health Organization
What list and category is gonorrhea on by the WHO
Bacterial Priority Pathogens List 2024
High Priority
2nd to Critical Priority
What does Zoliflodaicin do?
Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase, preventing bacterial DNA replication
Why is Gonorrhea a High Prioirty Bacteria
Because of its antibiotic resistance
How does the Zolifodacin testing work?
Zolifodacin introduced and grown in cartridges attempting to simulate human infections
