Migration in foetal period?
The neurones move from their place of origin in the center of the brain to particular locations throughout the brain where they will become part of specialised functioning units
Teratogen?
Any disease, drug or other environmental agent that can harm a developing foetus (thalidomide, heavier smoking, alcohol).
Postpartum Depression?
An episode of clinical depression lasting 2 or more weeks in a woman who has just given birth.
LBW?
Low Birth Weight
Foetal Programing?
Environmental events and maternal conditions during pregnancy may alter the expected genetic unfolding of the embryo/foetus or reset its physiologic functions
Apgar Test?
A test given to newborns soon after birth. This test checks a baby’s heart rate, muscle tone, and other signs to see if extra medical care or emergency care is needed.
