What are the clinical signs
Conjunctivitis, ocular exudate, rhinitis, tracheitis are the common CS
Other CS: voice change, dirty shoulders, swollen sinuses, submandibular swelling
What age?
Usually 1-6 weeks, but all ages are susceptible
Transmission
Bird to bird via oculonasal secretions
Recovered carriers are a source of infection
Infection can be transmitted via human traffic
Litter and water can be sources of infection
What type of farm usually has problems with this disease
Farms with multi-age flocks and continuous confinement
High or low mortality?
Low mortality
Can see higher mortality if complicated by E. Coli or pasturella
Gross lesions
Mucus within sinuses
Tracheal collapse
Raccoon eye (exudate around eyes)
Diagnosis
Gross lesions, necropsy, histopath, bacterial cultures
Prevention
All in, all out management
Can be transmitted in contaminated water lines, so flush water lines between flocks
Never backtrack from older to younger turkeys on the farm
There is a killed injectable bacterin
