Posterior compartment of the leg Flashcards
Muscles in the superficial posterior compartment
Gastrocnemius
Soleus
Plantaris
Muscles that plantaflex the ankle
Gastrocnemius
Soleus
Plantaris
Difference and similarities between gastroc and soleus
Gastroc crosses the knee so can flex knee
Both insert into archives tendon. Both plantar flex ankle
Both tibial nerve
Muscle of the deep compartment of the leg
Tibialis posterior
Flexor digitorum longus
Flexor hallicus longus
Popliteus
What is the nerve supply for all posterior compartment muscles
Tibial nerve. Branch of the femoral nerve
Describe the popliteus muscle
Origin is the lateral condoyl of the femur and attaches to the posterior tibia. It medially rotates the tibia. Tibial N. supply.
Where does tibialis posterior start and insert
Origin posterior tibia and interosseous membrane. Inserts navicular with slips to all mid and hind foot bones
Names the 13 leg muscles
TIbialis anterior, extensor digitorum longus, extensor hallicus longus, peroneus tertias, peroneus longus, peroneus brevis, tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus, flexor hallicus longus, popliteus, plantaris, soleus, gastrocnemus.
