Hand Flashcards
Name the carpal bones
Scaphoid, lunate, triquetrum, pisiform, trapizium, trapezoid, capitate, hamate.
Name the joints in the hand
Carpometacarpal joint, metacarpalphalangeal joint, proximal interphalangeal joint, distal interphalangeal joint.
What do the flexor tendons sit within
A synovial sheath and fibrous tunnel
Describe the ligaments in the hand
In the median of each joint are palmer ligaments. These make up the floor of the fibro-osseus tunnels. In-between metacarpals are the deep transverse metacarpal ligaments, these stop the metacarpals spreading too wide.
Describe the muscles of the hand
Interossei muscle. Dorsal and palmar work to abduct and adduct the fingers respectively. Insert inbetween the metacarpals into the extensor hood on the proximal phalanges. Lumbricals- origin flexor digitorum tendon insert laterally into extensor hood. Fine motor control of fingers.
Hypothena eminence- Opponens digiti minimi, flexor digiti minimi, abductor digiti minimi
Hyperthena eminence- same but pollicis
