Knee Flashcards
What is the joint between the patella and the femur called
The patellofemoral joint
What kind of bone is the patella and what is it’s job.
A sesamoid bone. Bone within a tendon. It’s job is to protect the tendon, the quads tendon extends over knee the patella stops it rubbing against the distal head of the femur.
What tendon holds the patella and where does the tendon attach
The quadriceps tendon. Tibial tubercle
What are the medial and lateral ligaments of the knee joint
The fibular collateral ligament (lateral) and the tibial collateral ligament (medial)
Which of the medial and lateral knee joints are more intrinsic to the knee joint
The medial collateral ligament (tibial)
What are the internal ligaments in the knee joint
The anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments. These hold the femur in place on the tibia
What is the pes anserinus
Where the tendons of sartorius, gracilis and and semitendinosus insert in the medial surface of the tibia. These tendons can be used to reconstruct a torn ACL
What are the bursa of the knees
The pre patellar bursa, the subcutaneous and deep infra patellar bursa and the supra patellar bursa.
Which bursa is continuous with the knee joint and clinical relevance.
The supra patellar bursa. This is where you do a knee aspirate.
Describe the menisci
Medial and lateral meniscus. Improve the articulation between the femur and the tibia
What stops the patella from dislocating
That the lateral condoyl of the fibula is higher than the medial condyl. Patella tendon insert on lateral side of tibia
Knee alignment bowlegged and knee knocked
Varus (various the pig) and valgus (knee knocking)
