how are oxides of nitrogen produced?
A
fuel is mixed with air and ignited inside the engine. Temperature is high enough for nitrogen gas and oxygen gas to produce oxides of nitrogen.

causes acid rain and forms diltue nitric acid when dissolved in clouds
