• Were known as minutemen- ready to fight in a minutes notice

• Royal Governor Thomas Gage (British) hears Concord is
storing weapons
• Sends 700 troops to go seize the arms/weapons
• Paul Revere (plus 5 others) went to warn the town- Midnight Ride
How many minutemen meet the British?
• 77 Minutemen meet the British and tensions grow
Who fires the first shot?
• Someone (no one knows from what side) fired the first
shot-”Shot heard ‘round the world”
• The British continue on but find nothing
• As they return, 400 minute men fire on the British from windows, behind
fences, etc. (300 British were killed or wounded)
