What was the Articles of Confederation?

A
  • One Branch government house legislature (Congress)
  • Each state had one representative 1 state=1 vote
  • 9 of 13 states had to approve bill for it to become a law
  • No Executive Branch or National Justice System

What was the Shay’s Rebellion?

A

• Economic Depression- business slows, prices and wages
drop, unemployment rises
• America hit with Depression
• Farmers did great DURING the American Revolution
• After the A.R. there was not as much of a need for food
• MA. Farmers hit real hard

What happened after the Shay’s Rebellion continued?

A

Farmers could not sell crops. Farmers can not pay back loans.
Government/Banks take homes to collect their money
- Daniel Shay led a Rebellion to take up arms against the government. A militia disbands them
- but people realize gov’t needs to be reformed

What was Land Ordinance?

A
  • Land Ordinance of 1785 (settling land)
  • Broke Northwest Territory into sections
  • 6x6 mile townships
  • Each township broken into 1x1 mile properties= $1
  • One section put aside for a school

A

• Northwest Ordinance of 1787 (making states- 3 steps)
1 .Congress appointed a governor and 3 judges
• Settlers had basic rights
• Slavery was banned
2. 5,000 males were allowed to vote on legislature
3. 60,000 people could petition to be a state
