-typically due to a bacterial or viral infection inhaled to lungs
- leads to a build up of fluid and blood cells in the alveoli (CONSOLIDATION)

• fever (or pyrexia) with or without rigors
• cough (green or rusty coloured sputum)
• pleuritic chest pain
  -muscle or join pain
  -increased RR (tachypnoea)
  -increased HR (tachycardia)
• crackles
