PMP JWSH Flashcards
What type of virus is the human papilloma virus?
HPV is a double stranded DNA virus surrounded by an icosohedral capsule (20 sides)
What cell is typically lacking in patients being infcted by HPV?
Langerhans cells at the site of the lesion.
What pH is ideal for promoting infection?
5 which is the pH of a swimming pool.
Incubation period is 4-20 months.
What are the three pathognomonic characteristics of HPV histologically?
Acanthosis: Thickening of the stratum spinosum
Hyperkeratosis: Thickening of the stratum corneum
Interpapillary projections (papillomatosis)
Which layer of skin does DNA and protein production occur for HPV?
Where does final virus assembly occur?
DNA and protein production in the spinous layer
Final assembly in the granular layer.
What temp does cell death occur for ceyosurgery?
-20 degrees celcius
Want to apply spray until the area turns white 5 mm beyond the wart circumference.
Hold for 30 seconds.
How does pulsed dye laser therapy work for wart removal?
Light is passed through a dye emitting light absorbed primarily by red pigment (blood hemoglobin)
How does CO2 laser ablation work for wart removal?
Light passed through a CO2 gas chamber is absorbed by water.
Who first described endoscopic plantar fascitis?
Barret and Day
What is the maximum diameter afforded by a plantarfascial endoscopic device?
4.5 mm
Range is 1.5 - 4.5 mm
