Plants 3 Flashcards
Pollen
Pollen are tiny male gametophytes that carry spermproducing cells.
Pollen are dispersed by wind or pollinators which eliminates the need for sperm to swim to the egg
Seeds have three components which are?
an embryonic sporophyte plant, a food supply for the embryo, and a protective coat
embryonic sporophyte
The embryonic sporophyte develops within the archegonium, and the mature sporophyte stays attached to the gametophyte. The sporophyte is not photosynthetic. Thus both the embryo and the mature sporophyte are nourished by the gametophyte.
The male gametophyte is the
pollen grain
small group of cells within the pine cone or flower that produce the egg
The female gametophyte
The 4 surviving groups are
gingkos, cycads, gnetophytes, and conifers
