Plant Structure and Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water —-> glucose + oxygen
What do plants need for photosynthesis?
Sunlight and chlorophyll
What does chlorophyll do?
It absorbs the sun’s light energy
What are leaves well adapted for?
Photosynthesis
What happens during photosynthesis
Light energy is transferred to chemical energy
What are some examples of plant organs?
Stems, roots and leaves
What is epidermal tissue?
Tissue that covers the whole plant
What is xylem and phloem?
They transport things like water, mineral ions and sucrose around the plant
What happens in mesophyll tissue?
It is where most of the photosynthesis in a plant occurs
What does photosynthesis produce?
Glucose and oxygen
Where about in a plant does photosynthesis occur?
In mesophyll tissue which is in chloroplasts in the leaves
What does sunlight provide for photosynthesis?
Energy
