Cell organisation Flashcards
What are large multicellular organisms made up of?
Organ systems
What is the process called by which cells become specialised for a particular job?
Differentiation
What is a tissue?
A group of cells with a similar structure and function that work together
What are 3 examples of tissue in mammals?
Muscular tissue, glandular tissue, epithelial tissue
What does glandular tissue do?
Makes and secretes chemicals like enzymes and hormones
What does epithelial tissue do?
Covers some parts of the body like the inside of the stomach
What are tissues organised in to?
Organs
What is an example of an organ in the body?
Stomach
What three tissues is the stomach made up of
Muscular, glandular and epithelial tissue
What are organs organised in to?
Organ systems
What is an example of an organ system?
The digestive system
What does the digestive system do?
Changes insoluble molecules into soluble molecules so they can be absorbed into the blood
What 5 organs is the digestive system made of?
Glands (pancreas and salivary glands), the stomach, small intestine, liver and large intestine
What do glands do in the digestive system?
Produce digestive juices
What do the stomach and the small intestine do?
Digest food
