Placental Problems Flashcards
What are the three Deciduas
1.) Basalis
2.) Capsularis
3.) Parietalis
• An implantation of the
placenta in the lower
uterine segment.
• Cause is UNKNOWN but
is thought to occur
whenever the placenta is
forced to spread to find
an adequate exchange surface
Placenta Previa
Placenta Previa Risk Factors
✅History of placenta previa
✅Multiparity
✅Increasing Age
✅Large Placenta
✅Smoking and cocaine use in pregnancy
✅Previous CS or other uterine surgery
Placenta Previa Classifications
✅Total / Complete
✅Partial
✅marginal
✅Low-Lying
Placenta completely covers the internal cervical OS
Total Placenta Previa
Placenta partly covers the cervical opening but does not completely cover the OS
partial placenta Previa
Placenta edge reaches within 2 to 3 cm of the cervical opening
Marginal Placenta Previa
Placenta is implanted in the lower uterine segment near the cervix but does not cover the internal cervical OS
Low lying placenta previa
Placenta Previa Signs and symtpoms
• Sudden onset of painless
uterine bright red bleeding
• Soft, relaxed nontender
uterus with normal tone
• If the uterus is lying
longitudinally, the fundal
height is usually greater than
expected for gestational age
• Unengaged fetal presenting
part
Transabdominal ultrasound (Location and position of placenta)
Transvaginal ultrasound
Ultrasonography
Blood Examination
1.) CBC
2.) Hct and Hgb count
3.) Platelet Count
Women is evaluated to determine the amount of _____ and _____________ is initiated to evaluate the fetus
1.) Hemorrhage
2.) Electronic fetal monitoring
CONSERVATIVE MANAGEMENT:
If the mother is stable and the fetus is immature and has reassuring status it results into _______
Administer _______ like ________
1.) Delay Birth
2.) Corticosteroids
3.) betamethasone
Ultrasonographic exam may be done every _ to _ weeks
2-3 weeks
1.) Administer supplemental ______
2.) No vaginal or rectal _____
1.) Oxygen
2.) Examinations
Woman is at term (longer than 37 weeks) and in labor or bleeding presistently, what is expected?
Immediate delivery by cesarean is almost always indicated
Complications
