Amniofusion Flashcards
a technique by which warmed, sterile normal saline or Ringer’s lactate
solution is introduced into the uterus through an intrauterine pressure
catheter (IUPC)
Amnioinfusion
Uses
• to increase the volume of fluid in cases of oligohydramnios
• provides an extra cushion of fluid that relieves pressure on the umbilical
cord and promotes increased perfusion to the fetus
• to dilute moderate to heavy meconium released in utero
• indicated for PTL with PROM
NURSING CARE MANAGEMENT
w/ suspected cord compression, the immediate intervention is to
assist the laboring woman to another position
• If not successful in restoring the FHR, an amnioinfusion may be
considered.
• The nurse helps administered the AI, assesses the woman’s VS and
contraction status, and monitors the FHR by continuous EFM
