What are some features of Pityriasis Versicolor?
A
- It most commonly affects the trunk.
- Patches may be hypopigmented, pink or brown (hence versicolor)
- Scale is common
- Mild pruritus

What is the cause of Pityriasis Versicolor?
A
It is caused by a superficial cutaneous fungal infection (Malassezia furfur)

Who gets Pityriasis Versicolor?
A
- occurs in healthy individuals
- immunosuppression
- malnutrition
- Cushing’s

What is the treatment?
A
- Topical antifungal. (ketoconazole shampoo as this is more cost effective for large areas)
- If extensive disease or failure to respond to topical treatment then consider oral itraconazole
