What is the cause of lichen planus?
A
Uknown but thought to be immune mediated.

Describe the features of lichen planus.
A
- Itchy papular rash most commonly on palms, soles, genitals and flexor surfaces of arms.
- rash often polygonal in shape,
- ‘white-lace’ pattern on the surface (Wickham’s striae)
- Koebner phenomenon may be seen (new skin lesions appearing at the site of trauma)
- Oral lichen planus in around 50% of patients
- Nails: thinning of nail plate, longitudinal ridging

- Gold
- Quinine
- Thiazides

What is the management of lichen planus?
A
- Topical steroids
- May require oral steroids or immunosuppression if extensive.
