At what age group are they more common?
How does this differ from the age pattern of BCC and SCC?
A
They are more common in middle age.
They do not become more common in old age (unlike BCC & SCC)

What are the features of a keratocanthoma?
A
Features - said to look like a volcano or crater
- initially a smooth dome-shaped papule
- rapidly grows to become a crater centrally-filled with keratin

What is the prognosis of keratocanthomas?
A
They usually regress within 3 months resulting in a scar.

How should they be managed?
A
They should be urgently excised because they are clinically hard to distinguish from SCC.
