Explain Sensorimotor stage.

A

It’s a cognitive stage of Piaget
This stage last from: birth - 2 years old

Child learns to manipulate environment in order to meet physical needs.

Deals with Object permanence*: where they learn that objects continue to exist even when out of sight

Also, Primary circular reactions: repetition of body movement that occurred by chance “sucking the thumb”

And Secondary circular reactions: when manipulation is focused outside of the body “toy throwing”

Explain Pre-operational stage.

A

It’s a cognitive stage of Piaget
This stage last from: 2 - 7 years old

Characterized by Symbolic thinking: the ability to pretend.

Also, Egocentrism: the inability to imagine what another person may think or feel.

And Centration: inability to understand conservation
Ex: two one inch papers is more than one 2 inch paper

Explain Concrete operational stage.

A

It’s a cognitive stage of Piaget
This stage last from: 7 - 11 years old

No more centration and egocentrism
They are able to engage in logical thought if they have tangible materials “concrete” or information that is available.
