What is Pre-conventional mortality?
It’s a moral stage of Kohlberg
This stage is during: Preadolescence
Deals with stages 1 (obedience) and 2 (Self-interest)
Obedience: deals with avoiding punishment
Self-interest: deals with gaining reward. Its is know as the instrumental relativist stage because it is also based off of the “ I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine”
What is Conventional morality?
It’s a moral stage of Kohlberg
This stage is during: Adolescence to Adulthood
It contains phases 3 (conformity) and 4 ( Law and Order)
Conformity Example: “ I won’t steal because stealing is wrong in society”
Law and Order Example: “If everyone stole things they couldn’t afford then the business being stolen from, wouldn’t be able to continue”
What is Post-Conventional morality?
It’s a moral stage of Kohlberg
This stage is during: Adulthood (if at all)
This phase contains stages 5 (social contract) and 6 (universal human ethics)
Social contract: deals with viewing moral rules as conventions designed to ensure the greater good
Universal human ethics: deals with reasons that decisions should be made in consideration of abstract principles
